Following the Miami Grand Prix, BWT Alpine Formula One Team has announced that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his position as Team Principal, with the team accepting his resignation effective immediately.
Oakes, a former racing driver and current head of the Hitech Grand Prix squad, joined Alpine in July 2024. During his tenure, he oversaw a strong finish to the season that helped the team secure sixth place in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.
A team statement released on Tuesday confirmed: “BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his role as Team Principal. The team has accepted his resignation with immediate effect.
“As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as Executive Advisor and will also be covering the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes.
“The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer and for his contribution in helping the team secure sixth place in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.
“The team will not be making any further comment.”
Currently, Alpine sits ninth in the 2025 Teams’ standings with seven points, just one point ahead of Kick Sauber. Questions have also been raised about the future of driver Jack Doohan, who crashed out on the opening lap of the Miami Grand Prix.
It remains unclear who will replace Oakes, who joins a list of recent Alpine Team Principals to depart within the last two years, including Otmar Szafnauer and Bruno Famin.
Flavio Briatore will temporarily assume Oakes’ responsibilities as Executive Advisor while the team considers its next steps.
