The Aston Martin Formula 1 team has confirmed that Lance Stroll will not participate in the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday due to medical reasons.
Stroll has been withdrawn from the race after experiencing pain in his hands and wrist. The team indicated that the issue may be connected to a procedure he underwent ahead of the 2023 season. Stroll was involved in a cycling accident in February more than two years ago, suffering several injuries including fractured wrists.
That accident forced Stroll to miss pre-season testing, but he returned for the season-opening race in Bahrain and has since competed in every Grand Prix.
Recently, however, the Canadian driver has been dealing with renewed concerns regarding his wrists and will now undergo another medical procedure.
“Over the course of the past six weeks Lance has been experiencing pain in his hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes is in relation to the procedure he underwent in 2023,” the team said in a statement.
“As a result his medical team have confirmed that he will not race tomorrow and he will undergo a procedure to rectify these issues before focusing on his recovery.”
